ADHD DIAGNOSIS AND CARE

Jul,24,2020

If your kid is facing issues at home, school, or with friends because of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), then it is high time for you to implement an efficient treatment plan. You will initially need to take your kid to a health clinic to check whether your child is suffering from this condition or not.

The care providers from the community health clinic will conduct a few tests to determine whether your kid is suffering from ADHD or not. The care providers will rely on a number of things to test for ADHD because there is no particular test to diagnose ADHD. Below are a few things done by care providers for diagnosing ADHD.

  • Conducting interviews with teachers, parents, relatives, and other acquaintances
  • Personally keeping an eye on the child
  • Psychological tests
  • Questionnaires to measures the symptoms of ADHD

These tests will help the care providers to determine how the symptoms of ADHD are affecting the daily moods, lifestyle habits, productivity, and behavior of your child. They will then talk about the details with you and enquire when these behaviors were first noticed. In addition to that, the care providers will also ask for reports cards, samples of schoolwork, and a behavioral report from your kid’s teacher.

On the other hand, if an adult is suffering from ADHD, then the care providers from the community health clinic will want to talk with the individual’s partner or with other family members. They will also need to check whether the person had any symptoms of ADHD during his or her childhood, as it is crucial to make a proper diagnosis.

Your child will also have to undergo a few more tests during the initial visit to low-income health clinics. This is done to rule out the chances of other health care issues or problems. Common tests include:

  • Blood test to check lead levels;
  • Blood test to check for health care issues like thyroid diseases;
  • Test for measuring the electrical activity in your kid’s brain;
  • An MRI or CT scan to check whether there are any brain abnormalities; and
  • Test for eyesight and hearing.

If the care provider confirms that your kid is facing issues because of ADHD, then they will develop an efficient treatment plan and discuss the same with you. They will also recommend behavioral therapy and medications, as it will help your child to manage ADHD a lot more easily.
