We all know that the skin is the largest organ of our body and protects our body from microbes and infections. However, at times, the skin itself can get infected. These skin infections can be caused by different germs and the symptoms of these infections can vary from mild to severe. Types Of Skin Infections 

There are different types of skin infections and they can be classified into four major groups. They are: 

Viral Skin Infections 

As the name suggests, these skin infections are caused by viruses and can range from mild to severe ones. Various types of viral skin infections are measles, chickenpox, warts, etc. 

Bacterial Skin Infections 

These infections usually begin as small, red skin bumps. Some bacterial infections are mild and easily treatable. But there are others that will need oral antibiotics. Boils, cellulitis, and impetigo are some examples of bacterial skin infections.

Fungal Skin Infections 

Fungal infections usually occur in moist areas of the body like the armpits or feet. Some types of fungal infections are not contagious and are not life-threatening. Various types of fungal infections are nail fungus, diaper rash, athlete’s foot, ringworm, oral thrush, and yeast infection. 

Parasitic Skin Infections 

These are skin infections caused by a parasite. These types of infections are not life-threatening but can cause much discomfort to the person. Some of the various types of parasitic skin infections are scabies, lice, cutaneous larva migrans, and bedbugs. 

These are some of the most common types of skin infections. A medical exam is one of the most effective ways to find the cause of a skin infection.
