Understanding Some Common Skin Conditions
Our skin is the largest organ in our body and therefore skin issues can be big problems. Skincare experts in our affordable health clinic share the details of some of the most common skin problems. Read along to know.
Atopic Dermatitis
One of the most prevalent types of eczema in children is atopic dermatitis. Although the precise etiology of atopic dermatitis is unknown, experts think that genetics, the environment, and/or the immune system may have a role.
Atopic dermatitis can manifest itself on the hands, feet, face, or even in the skin’s folds and crevices (particularly in young children). The typical skin condition is dry, scaly, and itchy; persistent scratching may result in a thicker region. Despite the fact that persons with allergies frequently develop eczema, allergies do not cause eczema. Steroid creams are frequently applied to treat symptoms.
Shingles
Herpes zoster, sometimes known as the shingles virus, causes a red, blistering rash that can develop anywhere on the body, including the torso. There may also be a fever, tiredness, and headache.
The varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox, is what causes shingles. Having experienced chickenpox puts you at risk of developing shingles because the virus stays dormant (inactive) in your nervous system for years. The most at-risk groups include senior citizens and those with weakened immune systems. Shingles can be uncomfortable, but early antiviral treatment can minimize symptoms.
Hives
The familiar welts (raised, red, itchy spots) that can appear on the skin are hives. Medication, certain foods, and insect bites or stings are some common causes of hives. If your throat or face are swollen, your hives are widespread over your body, or if they interfere with your ability to breathe, call 911 or get immediate medical help from a low income health clinic or any other health center in your locality. Although hives often disappear in 2 to 4 hours, in some people they might last for months or even years; this condition is referred to as chronic urticaria.
The greatest tactic for preventing hives is to stay away from the trigger, whatever it may be. OTC antihistamines like loratadine (Claritin) and fexofenadine (Allegra) can be used to control itching if that isn’t an option.
Rosacea
Rosacea causes a persistent swelling of the face that is accompanied by redness, visible blood vessels, and pimples. Women over 30 are more likely to get it, but men can also get rosacea. The disorder may be brought on by immune system abnormalities, vascular issues, and/or environmental factors. There are numerous efficient therapies, depending on the symptoms.
