GENERAL INFORMATION ON POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

Jul,24,2020

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS is a common health problem, which is predominantly found in young women and teenage girls. Several studies conducted by experts in the field of medical science have revealed a shocking revelation that one out of ten women suffers from PCOS.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is actually a hormonal imbalance disorder, which triggers unwanted hair growth, acne, and irregular periods in women. This serious health issue typically begins during the teenage years of a girl and it can be either severe or mild. Some of the common signs of PCOS are discussed below.

  • You will be experiencing irregular periods.
  • There will be unwanted or extra hair growth on your face and on other parts of your body. This condition is popular known as hirsutism.
  • You will be either finding it hard to lose your weight or gaining extra weight.
  • Patches of dark skin may appear on the back of your neck and on other parts of the body. This health condition is termed as acanthosis nigricans.

If you have some or all these above-mentioned signs, then you might have PCOS. However, it is significant to note that there may be other reasons for having these symptoms as well. So, the best thing to do would be to visit a free women’s clinic and ask them to conduct a few tests to determine whether you are suffering from this condition or not.

The staff at the free women’s clinic will ask you some questions about your general health and your menstrual cycle. They will review your statement and then proceed to the next step, where they will do a complete physical examination of your body.

In addition to that, they will also ask you to take a blood test. The blood test is conducted to check your blood sugar, lipids, and hormone levels. After getting the results of the blood test, they might also recommend an ultrasound test.

The ovaries of women or girls with PCOS will be a little bit larger when compared to the ovaries of women who do not suffer from this condition. In addition to that, there might also be multiple tiny cysts in the ovaries of women with PCOS. So, the ultrasound test would further help to diagnose whether you have PCOS or not.
