IMPORTANCE OF STD TESTING AND TREATMENT IN WOMEN

Jul,24,2020

STD (sexually transmitted diseases), or sometimes referred to as STI (sexually transmitted infections), are infections that are passed from person to person during sexual activities. If you have recently engaged in any unprotected sexual activity, you are at risk for sexually transmitted diseases. It is true that using condoms will offer some protection against the spread of these infections, but STD can still be transmitted even when a condom is used.

IMPORTANCE OF GETTING TESTED

Studies show that the infection can be transmitted just after one sexual encounter with a person with STD. In addition to that, having more than one partner will increase the risks and chances of getting infected much.

It is very important to be tested for STD to ensure that you are not infected even if there are no external symptoms, because some people do not experience any symptoms when infected with STD. Many free womens clinics offer free STD testing and these clinics can refer or prescribe the treatment options as well, if you were diagnosed with STD.

STD can have lasting effects on the body including issues like infertility and complications in pregnancy. Using condom will offer some protection from STD, but some of the sexually transmitted diseases are spread by skin-to-skin contact. Besides, condoms may break or tear while in use, putting you at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

It would be better if you contact experts at a clinic near you that offers free STD and HIV testing to learn more about protecting yourself from sexually transmitted diseases.

CHANCES OF STD INFECTION

Studies show that one in five people have STD in the United States. Every year, there are about 19 million new STD infections reported in the US alone. The surprising fact is that about half of the new STD cases that are reported occur in the age group of 15 to 24.

Reports say that some of these people did not experience any symptoms, so they never understood that they had STD before conducting the formal tests. This means that any person, who is sexually active, is at risk of contracting STD and total abstinence is the only 100% effective way to avoid STDs.

STD AND ABORTION

It is very important to test for STD before undergoing abortion, as undiagnosed STD at abortion time may lead to complications after the procedure, like Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). PID can in turn lead to serious issues like ectopic pregnancy and in extreme cases, infertility.
